United SC ropes in Suruchi Sangha’s top scorer Safiq Ali Gayen

Safiq Ali Gayen scored 14 goals for Suruchi Sangha FC in the CFL First Division league this season.

In a bid to solve the goal-scoring deficiency United Sports Club has roped in Safiq Ali Gayen, the top scorer from Suruchi Sangha FC who struck 14 goals, helping his team to get promoted to the CFL Premier Division for the next season after winning the CFL 1st Division this season.

Along with Safiq, United SC has also roped in Kunal Ghosh, the attacking midfielder from the same team to bolster the team in the ongoing second-division I-League.

United SC despite an impressive start in the I-League-2 this season with the victory against Sporting Club Bengaluru, had to concede two consecutive league matches, one among them on Wednesday against Mumbai Kenkre FC by two goals. Despite creating opportunities United SC failed to convert.

The team’s Belgian coach Steve Herbots already explained the reasons behind the team's inability to become consistent which is the lack of combination among the players and it is the reflection of the team’s short pre-season training without a major section of the footballers due to their engagement with the University games.

The club’s director Nabab Bhattacharya also admitted the facts and opined, “Along with these reasons, I should say another important point that we are affected by the schedule of the League. The matches should have been once a week."

Citing example, Bhattacharya added, "the players will be reaching on Friday and after such a hectic train journey they will have to play against Sporting Goa on Sunday at home. They are not getting enough time to build up the combination. Secondly, Sahil Harijan’s suspension from two matches (against Kenkre and Sporting Goa) will be a crucial setback for us.”
