United Sports, with the victory, reached the top of the League table with 12 points from six matches while Mohammedan Sporting are stuck at 10 points after six matches.
The score-line does not reflect the delight of United Sports style of play. Under the leadership of Tarak Hembram, Prasanta Das, and Ruhul Kuddus Purkait, United dished out not only commanding but an excellent passing football to penetrate the opposition box.
The combination of Kuddus and Dipesh Murmu and Murmu’s runs down the left put Salman Faris in huge embarrassment often thanks to the club’s Belgian coach Steve Herbots’ guidance which propelled the footballers to build up counter-attacks from own half by playing and defence-splitting forward passes almost flawlessly. Even United Sports were deprived of a spot-kick when Bhaaranyu Bansal was tripped by the Mohammedan Sporting custodian inside the box in the 32nd minute.
The Black-and-white brigade deserved the only goal when Tanmoy Bose's left-footer rebounded off the post in the first half. They created a few more opportunities also in the second half, especially, after Mahitosh Roy stepped in after the break. But as a whole, the team did not look composed.
Mahitosh Roy reduced the margin from an accurate long-ranger in the later part of the second session.
