US sprinter and Olympics medalist Tori Bowie dies at 32 only

Tori Bowei was found dead in her room.

Tori Bowie, winner of three medals at the Rio Olympics 2016, passed away at the age of 32. Her management company and US Track and Field announced on Wednesday. 

Icon Management twitted, “We are devastated to share the sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away.”  Describing Bowie as their friend, daughter, and sister, Icon Management mentioned that they are heartbroken and they are praying for her friends and family. 

Kimberly Holland, Bowie’s agent told CNN that the athlete was found dead in her room. USATF also expressed its condolences for the talented athlete.

Bowie’s grandmother took her from an orphanage home to rural Mississippi. Although her first love was basketball, Tori very soon became a sprinter and long jumper. She attended Southern Mississippi and won the long jump event of the 2011 NCCA indoor and outdoor championships.

In Rio, she won silver in the 100m, bronze in the 200m, and gold in the 4x100 relay. In the 2017 World Championship, she won the 100m and 4x100m relay. Her last major competition was the 2019 World Championship where she finished fourth in the long jump. She was not a participant in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. 

Besides tracks, Bowie was a professional model. She appeared on the runway in the 2019 Paris Fashion Week for Y3, a collaboration label between Adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto.
