Veterans Sports Club to introduce 'Bar Pujo', a health workshop for youngsters, initiates the first-ever benevolent fund for the depleted former internationals in Kolkata Maidan

the club will also organize a workshop on health awareness under the supervision of Nishit Adhikary where the club's 70 young footballers will be present.

Despite the fact it does not have a professional senior team, Veteran Sports Club like all other clubs in Maidan is also going to introduce 'Bar Pujo' on the occasion of Bengali New Year on Saturday at its own ground in Maidan. But that is not the end of it programs on the day.

Under the leadership of newly joined secretary, former Indian international Sumit Mukherjee, and legendary former footballers like Shyam Thapa (president), Mihis Bose, Bhaskar Ganguly, Biswajit Bhattacharya, Kartik Seth, and many other footballers, the club will also organize a workshop on health awareness under the guidance of Dr. Nishit Chowdhury where the club's 70 young footballers will be present.

Club president Shyam Thapa commenting on the program said, "Our under-12 kids will take part in the forthcoming nursery football league. So, the workshop will guide them and their parents about how to be healthy through proper nutrition. We the former footballers are trying to initiate a development program from the grass route from here. This club has the advantage that all of us have played the game professionally. So our vision will be different from so–called club officials. But the major problem in Indian football now is that the kids and the youths do not have needed exposure. Federation as well as the state associations should introduce and increase the number of tournaments for the kids and youth. Even we have plans to make an under-15 squad and play in different tournaments within and outside the city. Let us hope for the best."

The club which has also decided to make a permanent association with the health organization run by Nishit Chowdhury, Nisana Foundation is going to introduce another important scheme. That is the benevolent fund for mainly those former Indian international footballers who are in acute financial distress. Secretary Sumit Mukherjee commented, "Following advise and encouragement from our chief coach Bikash Panji and committee members including Biswajit Bhattacharya, Kartik Seth, Mihir Bose, we are going to create a fund for the former Indian international players who are struggling to survive. We will start with Rs 1 lakh. Interestingly Mohammedan Sporting, East Bengal, especially former IFA secretary Jaydip Mukherjee has cheered our effort. We have not yet talked to Mohun Bagan regarding the issue. ButI am optimistic that Mohun Bagan and other clubs will also come forward with their financial assistance and donate to the fund every year so that it starts with a worthy amount of money."
