East Bengal’s new attacking midfielder Victor Vazquez said that head coach Carles Cuadrat was the reason behind him joining the Kolkata giants for past connections with him. The 37-year-old is pleased to be part of the club and accepts a new challenge in his career. Before joining the Red and Gold, Vazquez spent the last few years in the MLS, playing at top-level.            

Victor reflected on his journey of growing up with Spanish giants FC Barcelona having spent 14 years at La Masia. As a youngster, the Spaniard admired Denmark legend Michael Laudrap and later on, shared the pitch with Xavi, Iniesta and Ronaldinho. Vazquez was also a teammate of Lionel Messi. He has played with East Bengal’ assistant coach Dimas Delgado in Barca B side as well.

“I wanted to join somewhere where I can feel comfortable, a team and a coach that loves to play football,” Vazquez reflected on his choice to join East Bengal, “The team is doing well this season and I have come here to help and do my best. To score some goals if I can and try to win as many games as possible. We want to get into the playoffs.” He wants to bring his experience to guide the young stars of the team.
