Bijoy Ghosh aims to overcome the challenge even with ‘inexperienced’ boys

Significantly Bengal has ensured a berth in the quarter-final and will face fancied Karnataka on 19th April.

It is his maiden coaching assignment with the Bengal team. Calcutta Police Club coach Bijoy Ghosh thanked the IFA for allowing him to guide the team in the ongoing Under-20 men's national football championship in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh.

Significantly Bengal has ensured a berth in the quarter-final and will face fancied Karnataka on 19th April.

The 18 footballers from the 30 probables were selected for the final squad. Out of 18, five-to-six footballers had experience taking part in the CFL! Not in the CFL Premier Division. They played for different First Division, Second Division, or Third Division teams last season.

East Bengal, Mohun Bagan did not release the footballers, called up in the preparatory camp due to their engagement in the ongoing RFDL. Teams like United Sports and Diamond Harbour FC could not release footballers due to their engagement in the ongoing second division I-league, and third division I-league, respectively. So, the Bengal coach did not have the option to strengthen the team with experienced footballers.

Still, Ghosh sounded optimistic about the team's performance in the forthcoming matches. He even believes Bengal can win the title with these inexperienced but spirited boys.

He knows that in the quarter-final Bengal is going to have a daunting task against Karnataka which comprised the footballers who played second division I-league and even a few among them took part in the I-league.

Speaking from Narainpur on Wednesday, Ghosh explained, "The under-20 national championship is very crucial for a footballer. This can be the outlet for him to build up his career in the senior team if he performs. I am continuously trying to motivate them with the dream that if you perform here you can be the future star of senior Bengal and the senior national team.”

He continued, “I am happy that the boys have so far exhibited consistently and I believe that have the capacity to do miracles by upsetting stronger teams in our next matches."

The spotter from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is there at Narainpur and a couple of footballers like Rahul Naskar and Shivam Mandi from Bengal are expected to get call-ups in the national preparatory camps in the future. Rahul Naskar has scored three goals for Bengal so far in the tournament.

Calcutta Police Club has also qualified for the CFL Premier Division this season under the guidance of Bijoy Ghosh. Even a couple of footballers can be roped in this season by the Police Club.
