India wrestler Vinesh Phogat made a stunning start to her campaign by first beating the reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki to advance to the quarters. Then she beat Oksana Livach 7-5 to enter the semifinals of the women's 50kg freestyle event.
Vinesh Phogat will take on Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the 5th fixture on Mat B for the semi-final match.
In a display of emotion, Vinesh was also seen crying after the match.
Vinesh stands one win away from assuring a medal, which if achieved, will make her the first Indian female wrestler to win a silver or gold in wrestling at the Olympics, bettering Sakshi Malik's bronze medal finish at Rio Olympics 2016. However, if Vinesh stumbles in the semis clash, she can still fight for bronze, taking on the winner of the repackage round.
