Violence in Manipur forces AIFF to cancel ‘Imphal Derby’

Neroca FC which played their home matches at the Kalyani Stadium in the first phase of the I-league will be playing home matches at Nehru Stadium in Shillong.

Due to ongoing 'ethnic' violence in the hilly region and the city outskirts in Manipur, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has canceled the forthcoming 'Imphal derby' of the ongoing I-league. The derby between Neroca FC and TRAU was scheduled to be held at Imphal on 3rd February.

Neroca FC initially made a proposal to the AIFF to make it a 'close-door match' where no supporter will be allowed to enter the stadium. But the AIFF, unwilling to lose the huge fanfare over this match in the state, has decided to reschedule and stage it at Imphal after some days according to the situation.

However, Neroca FC which played their home matches at the Kalyani Stadium in the first phase of the I-league will be playing home matches at Nehru Stadium in Shillong. TRAU and Inter Kashi however have taken NOC to play their home matches at Kalyani Stadium.
