This is not the first instance. Kohli and Gambhir were involved in a tussle back in the 2013 IPL
The news of Lucknow’s defeat against RCB in a low-scoring match has surpassed when former RCB captain Virat Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir along with Naveen-ul-Haq were involved in an exchange of heated words in the post-match session.
Both Kohli and Gambhir have been fined 100 percent of their match fees for breaking the IPL code of conduct. The incident happened at Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. As per the BCCI statement, both Kohli and Gambhir have admitted to the Level 2 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL code of conduct.
The incident started when Naveen-ul-Haq exchanged words with Kohli after post-match customary formalities. Thereafter, LSG opener Mayers was seen having a word with Kohli which was interrupted by Gambhir.
Kohli wanted to pacify Gambhir with his hands on Gambhir’s shoulder but the latter was more animated and repeatedly charged towards Kohli. Amit Mishra ultimately separated them when the two were involved in the exchange of words.
This is not the first instance. Kohli and Gambhir were involved in a tussle back in the 2013 IPL when they were respective skippers of RCB and KKR. During that match, while Kohli was returning to the dug-out after his dismissal in the 10th over, he and Gambhir were found charging against each other before being separated. Later Gambhir clarified that there is no personal rivalry between them.
Former RCB captain Anil Kumble is disappointed with the show. He said, “A lot of emotions go into the game but it should not be displayed. You need to have a conversation but this is unaccepted.” He added that everybody should respect the opposition and the game. It was not a nice thing to see for both Virat and Gambhir and whoever was involved.
