The start of the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and India has been less than ideal for Virat Kohli.
In a recent YouTube video, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg drew comparisons between Sachin Tendulkar’s legendary Test run tally and the current achievements of Virat Kohli and England's Joe Root, sparking debate across the present world of cricket.
Hogg stated that Root is the potential player to break Tendulkar's world record of 15,921 runs scored through 200 Test matches. As Virat Kohli has lost his prime time.
"I just don't think Virat is going to get there," stated Hogg.
He continued his statement with - "I think he's lost his momentum, and the momentum that he's lost has been for a number of years now. He's got to turn around in the next 10 Test matches, or he's going to drop off.”
Root has a score of 12,402 runs in 146 Tests and is 3519 runs behind Tendulkar. Whereas, Virat has 8871 runs over 114 Test matches he has played.
Further comparing the tally Hogg concluded -
"So, Joe Root has (played) 146 Test matches with 12,000 (12402) runs. Sachin Tendulkar made nearly 16,000 (15,921) runs in 200 Test matches. That's 4,000 runs in 66 Tests. I think Joe Root can go close to toppling that,".
The start of the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and India has been less than ideal for Virat Kohli. This opening Test marks the beginning of a crucial 10-Test run for the team over the next four months, where expectations are high for the star batsman to regain his form.
