Virat Kohli’s return to the Ranji Trophy after 12 years became memorable as it created violence among the ecstatic supporters outside the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.
The fans were thrilled to have seen their hero and flocked to the venue in large numbers.
It finally turned chaotic outside the venue as fans were injured. Outside Gate 16, the crowd was involved in pushing each other, which led to a couple of fans falling near the entry gate and getting injured. A police bike was damaged and several left behind their shoes. At least three people got injured in the chaos.
The injured fans were treated by the DDCA security and police near the gate. One of the fans also needed a bandage on the leg. A security guard was also injured while trying to get the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Kohli entered the Arun Jaitley Stadium amidst the roaring chants of the spectators. They were chanting ‘RCB, RCB’. One of the fans even intruded on the ground and touched Kohli’s feet before security officials rushed to take him away from the playing arena. The crowd was so ecstatic that they shouted for the Delhi captain to bring Kohli with the ball. Delhi opted to field against Railways in their crucial Ranji Trophy league phase match which started on Thursday.
