Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in their opening match of the Indian Premier League
Devastating Virat Kohli guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to humiliate Mumbai Indians and earn a eight-wicket victory at their home at Chinaswamy Stadium. Bengaluru superseded their opposition in all departments. Virat Kohli, exhibiting a magnificent 82 off 49 deliveries, steered his team to the victory. He was perfectly assisted by Faf du Plessis who struck 75 off 43 deliveries.
Mumbai lost the toss and went to bat first. Virat took 7 wickets and restricted Rohit to just 171 runs. Mumbai lost 3 wickets in the power play and came under pressure. Then Mumbai went up to 171 runs with the bat of Tilak Verma. He was unbeaten on 84 runs off 46 balls. Cameron Green could not match himself in the IPL debut. Even Suryakumar Yadav could not trust him. Among the RCB bowlers, Karan Sharma caught the most attention. In the absence of Wanindu Hasaranga, the leg-spinner experienced impeccable bowling. Karan took two wickets with 32 runs in 4 overs.
Chasing a target of 172 runs, both openers took the match closer to victory. Bengaluru scored 148 runs in the opening pair. Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis was dismissed for 75 runs off 43 balls. Virat scored 82 runs off 49 balls. Glenn Maxwell scored 12 runs off 3 balls in the last over. Bengaluru won the match easily.
