Warner says still Kohli is the threat; Sourav also waits for King's return to form

“I'm genuinely worried for the Australian cricket team that he's going to come out and pile on some runs. For Australia's sake, I hope he doesn't, but I think he will thrive on the fact he hasn't done so well for a while and he's got a point to prove.”

Sourav Ganguly and David Warner believe that the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy could be Virat Kohli's last in Australia. While acknowledging Kohli's stellar record Down Under, with four centuries in 2014 and another in 2018, the former Indian captain shared bold remarks about the 36-year-old batter’s future in the marquee series.

He asserted, “He will want to make this series count, and he will also know this could be the last time he is touring Australia to play Test cricket. So, in every sense, this is a massive series for Kohli.”

“I don't want to read too much into the New Zealand series. The pitches did not allow good batting. In Australia, he will enjoy the conditions. There will be good pitches. I am backing Virat to deliver in Australia in this series," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the former Australian cricketer David Warner also raised concern about the King. However, it’s more like a cautious note to Australia.

In a note in his Herald Sun column, he remarked, “I'm worried about Virat Kohli... but not for the reasons everyone else is.”

“I've seen this before. People want to write Virat off after India's disastrous 3-0 Test series loss to New Zealand this month, but I'm actually worried for Australia," Warner expressed in his Herald Sun column.

"This is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and we know Virat always steps up in Australia and completely embraces that challenge like almost no one else who has ever visited our shores. There is no better way for him to come out and shut the critics up," Warner continued.

“I'm genuinely worried for the Australian cricket team that he's going to come out and pile on some runs. For Australia's sake, I hope he doesn't, but I think he will thrive on the fact he hasn't done so well for a while and he's got a point to prove.”

“This will definitely be the last time we see Virat in Australia in Test match whites, which is something we should all savour. Virat has always been the person they rely heavily on to score runs, and more often than not in Australia, he has proven up for the contest,” Warner concluded.
