WB Police footballers playing CFL after painstaking Panchayet election duty

Bunando Singh, Sarthok Golui, Dip Saha and Avishek Kunjum scored for the winners while Subrta Biswas and Rajib Dutta reduced margin for WB police.

The scoreline does not reflect their physical and psychological stress. Their incessant injury, especially the muscle-cramps during the match even does not reveal how much rigorous job they had to finish only a couple of days back. All the footballers of West Bengal Police who lost to East Bengal by 2-4 goals in their CFL Premier Division match at Naihati Stadium on Monday returned on 14th of July from recently-held Pancheyet election duties in different districts and immediately stepped on to the ground wearing boots and jerseys against Police AC.

They participated in their second match on the day after election. The team's coach Ashok Chakrabarty who also had to go to Taherpur to complete election duty said on Monday after the match, "Several footballers in our team had to do almost 10-hour duty in the election which means they had to walk for continuously 10 hours. Amidst the situation, they returned on 14th July and played against Police AC. Naturally they were physically and mentally drenched. Today also, most of the footballers were plagued by hamstring injury and muscle cramps. They did not get the minimum rest needed after that rigorous assignment."

Except the four, average age of WB police footballers is 35 years. It is obvious as there has been no recruitment in West Bengal Police since 2008. Still, they dished out a spirited show, equalizing the score line after trailing by 1-2. A few crucial mistakes finally compelled them to concede the defeat.

East Bengal, despite having secured full three points in their second CFL match after a draw in the opener, was not up to the mark. Especially their defensive organization was often seen crumpled whenever WB police put pressure on them.

Bunando Singh, Sarthok Golui, Dip Saha and Avishek Kunjum scored for the winners while Subrta Biswas and Rajib Dutta reduced margin for WB police.

On Monday among the other CFL Premier Division matches, George Telegraph and Wari AC split points playing out a 2-2 draw, the Eastern Railway-ASOS Rainbow match also ended in 1-1 draw and Police AC shared points with Railway FC in a 0-0 draw.
