In times of distress for Vinod Kambli, the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, has shown their commitment extends far beyond the pitch, standing by him through his struggles.

Once a star of Indian cricket, Kambli now faces health struggles and personal setbacks. Yet, even in these tough times, his former teammates are standing by him.

The 1983 World Cup-winning team, which changed Indian cricket forever, remains a family. Kapil Dev, the team’s captain, expressed his desire to support Kambli, saying, “I want to stand by him... We want to look after Kambli and see how we can help him, especially when luck hasn’t been on his side.” 

Sunil Gavaskar echoed these sentiments, calling the 1983 team a second family, “Some of them are like my children, others like my grandchildren. We care for them, especially when fortune doesn’t smile. We are not here to just help; we want to take care of Kambli.”

Recently, Kambli’s appearance at a memorial for coach Ramakant Achrekar raised concerns as he struggled to walk, a stark contrast to his once graceful form. Sachin Tendulkar, a teammate from the 1983 squad, was quick to offer comfort, walking over to Kambli and sharing a moment of quiet support.

Despite his struggles, Kambli remains optimistic, assuring his followers, “By God’s grace, I am fine. I’m completely healthy and ready to bat at number three again.” 

His resilience, supported by his old teammates, highlights that true cricket spirit is found not in victories but in the unwavering bonds of friendship, through both good and bad times. As Kapil Dev said, “We’re not here just to help; we’re here because we care.”
