'We should work harder to convince the ISL club owners to give opportunity to Indian coaches': Clifford

It was one of his happiest moments winning Super Cup for Odisha FC as the Indian coach. Still, Clifford Miranda does not seem complacent. The former international from Goa rather stated, "It is just the beginning. I have to go a long way."

While speaking to Parallel Sports from Kozhikode, Miranda was asked whether this success can propel the ISL club owners to think over Indian coaches to appoint as the head coaches in their respective teams. The 41-year-old coach explained, "Yes it can happen in future. But before that we, the Indian coaches should work harder. Indian coaches, coaching in different premier teams presently should deliver more so that the respective teams succeed, win trophies and if it happens then the ISL club owners will also be convinced about our capability, think over recruiting Indian coaches as the head of staffs for their teams in the ISL."

Clifford gained experience of coaching with the reserve team of FC Goa in 2017. He won Goa Professional League as the team's coach. He was assistant coach of Juan Ferrando in FC Goa. Ferrando is currently Mohun Bagan's Spanish coach. He did not hesitate, "I am inspired by Ferrando a lot. Both of us believe in almost similar football philosophy. Like him I also try to imply possession-based game style."

Miranda who acquired Pro-license in 2019 asserted that certificates do not ultimately convert one coach from ordinary to extra-ordinary level. He commented, "We need to educate ourselves and for that we need to make research on legendary coaches' activities across the world. Otherwise we cannot reach the highest level of technique, method and man-management skill."

Clifford mentioned he likes Jose Mourinho very much for his attitude. But he seems enthralled whenever he watches Pep Guardiola's coaching. "He is a revolution in modern-day coaching. I get extreme delight whenever I watch Manchester City now, previously Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Nobody sees the game in the way he sees.He is completely different from others."

Miranda now prepares his boys for the forthcoming AFC Cup qualification match against Gokulam FC.
