Saparya was invited to take part in the first division chess league of Bangladesh for Dhaka Chess Club.
Saparya Ghosh has already established herself as one of Bengal's future in chess, when she conquered Asia in 2022, winning two titles in rapid and classical in the girl's under-12 category.
She also represented India in the World Cadet Championship the same year at Batumi, Georgia. That was her maiden international competition.
Later she participated in the same World and Asian championships in 2023 and took part in the Commonwealth this year.
Saparya has also received the reward for having maintained consistency. She has become Women's Fide Master for being champion in the standard category in Asian Youth Chess in 2022. Now Saparya’s target is to achieve the WIM norm.
But the student of eighth standard at Sudhir Memorial Institute, Madhyamgram was quite restless in her childhood. Significantly she had a love for painting also. Her mother Tirtha Ghosh revealed, "She was skillful also in painting. But she was at the same time restless in her childhood. I had an interest in chess. So in a bid to make her calm and quiet, I took her to Alekhine Chess Club.
Tirtha divulged, "Initially she did not have much interest in the game. The interest grew after she started learning the basics from Shukla Chakrabarty at the club. Saparya progressed and drew attention first in the state championship, finishing in the third position in the under-7 category.”
Saparya’s parents got psychologically involved in chess and decided to encourage Saparya more after her first national championship in Andhra Pradesh in 2017.
But Saparya and her mother are unlikely to forget their nightmarish experience in Bangladesh they went to in July. Saparya was invited to take part in the first division chess league of Bangladesh for Dhaka Chess Club. However, the League could not be completed due to the students' movement that turned into viciousness.
Eight players from Bengal along with more from a few other states also were there during the deadly period. The League was scheduled to be held for 11 days where 11 rounds-play was to be completed. But after the end of nine rounds, the League had to be stopped. The players and their guardians had to go through terrible dismay during the phase.
Saparya’s mother when asked revealed, “Outside the Federation's hall where the matches were going on, sounds of gunshots created a terrifying situation for all of us. How could the players continue playing amidst the situation? Even after returning home on 21st July, we struggled to overcome the panic."
Saparya has now the Elo ratings of 1925. It can be added by the 60 points she earned in Bangladesh but as the League could not be completed the points might not be added also.
