The All England Club (AELTC) and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) will pay for two hotel rooms per Ukraine player in Wimbledon qualifying and main draws for the whole grass-court season.
Wimbledon organizers have declared that they will provide extra financial relief to Ukraine and also took the difficult decision of lifting its ban on Russian and Belarusian players.
The All England Club (AELTC) and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) will pay for two hotel rooms per Ukraine player in Wimbledon qualifying and main draws for the whole grass-court season.
Belarusian and Russian players were not allowed to play last year after Russia’s Ukraine invasion. Chairman Ian Hewitt, after lifting the ban told that it was a difficult and challenging decision but their total condemnation hasn’t lessened over Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Wimbledon and LTA were punished for their stance last year by WTA and ATP with heavy fines and removal of ranking points and overturned the ban last year.
At a press conference, it was announced that 1 euro per ticket sold, expected to be around 500000 euros will be donated to Ukrainian relief. Also, 1000 Ukrainian refugees will be invited for a day to witness the Grand Slam tournament.
Russian and Belarus players will have to sign a declaration indicating their neutrality and flags of either country or any other symbol of support will be banned.
