Women's squash team entered semi-finals, assured of bronze

The men's team also in the last four stages, hope to earn silver

Joshna Chinnappa, Anahat Singh, Dipika Pallikal, and Tanvi Khanna, raised hopes of a gold medal as they showed off their prowess on the court in previous pool B matches at the Asian Games.

 Despite the 0-3 loss by Malaysia on Thursday before the semi-final fixtures, the Indian team sealed their spot in the pool to make the semifinals which guarantees them at least a bronze.

Indian veteran, Joshna Chinappa endured a 6-11, 2-11, 8-11 defeat to Subramaniam Sivasangari in 21 minutes. 

In the second match, Tanvi Khanna managed a 2-1 lead before loosing to Commonwealth Games gold medallist Aifa Binti Azman 9-11, 11-1, 7-11, 13-11, 11-5.

15-year-old Anahat Singh went against Malaysia's Rachel Mae Arnold in the concluding match and lost in straight sets (7-11, 7-11, 12-14).

However, the men's squad blanked Nepal 3-0 in its final pool tie and managed to proceed to the semi-finals. In the event, Abhay Singh defeated Amrit Thapa Magar 11-2, 11-4, 11-1 in 17 minutes. In the next match, Mahesh Mangaonkar earned victory over Arhant Keshar Simha 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 also in a 17-minute skirmish.

Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu then swiped the match clean by beating Amir Bhlon 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 in just 12 minutes.

The Indian teams will be in action in the semifinal on Friday and will hope for the yellow medal.
