Yin Wei thinks that the gap between Indian and foreign players have been narrowed.

In 1995 Yin Wei joined as a coach of PSPBA.

The 69-year-old Yin Wei considers himself as half Indian. Yin Wei is the only son of Yin Hua Yu and Sie Wer Ar. They lived in Sintu City of China. His parents were teachers in a school of Sintu. 

From his childhood Wei was affectionate towards the game of Table Tennis. He started playing Table Tennis during his school days. In 1970 he was a player in the Chinese Youth Team. 

After his schooling, Wei got admitted in the Sports University of Sintu. After his graduation he joined the same University as a teacher and trainer. In 1992 he came to India and joined, as a trainer, in Patiala. In 1995 he joined as a coach of Petroleum Sports Petroleum Board Academy, Ajmer (PSPBA). Soon he became the integral part of the Academy. He produced a host of player who represented the country and brought fame. Soumyadeep Roy, Sibaji Dutta, A Amalraj, Jubin Kumar, Aman Balgu are some of the well-known names. 

Age is not a bar for Wei. On being asked Wei said, “I watch latest International matches. I study the latest technical aspects every day.”

In 2005 Yin Wei joined SAI. Here he was mainly in charge of the senior team while Australian Coach Brett Clarke looked after the junior team. In 2019 he joined National Centre of Excellence (NCOE). Only for few months, during the Covid 19, Wei few back to his home town with his wife.

In an exclusive interview with the Parallel Sports Wei said, “There are lots of talent in India. Previously there was a huge gap between the Indian players and the foreign players. Now the gap has narrowed down. It will take few more years to wipe off this gap.” Currently Wei is at Kolkata with the NCOE U19 team to participate in the 85th UTT National TT Championship. His team has lost to Utter Pradesh in the semifinal.

Wei’s contract with NCOE will terminate after May. He is not sure whether the contract will be renewed.
