Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s quest to become the first-ever men’s doubles pair from India to reach the finals of the Badminton World Championships fell short in Paris on Saturday. They lost in three games against Chen Bo-Yang Liu Yi. After starting the match in command, Satwik-Chirag struggled with the Chinese gameplay and went down 19-21, 21-18, 21-12 in 62 minutes.
Late on Friday night at Paris 2025, after defeating Malaysia’s two-time Olympic medallists Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarterfinals, Satwik-Chirag assured themselves of a podium finish. They also guaranteed that India’s streak of at least one medal at the tournament, which began with the 2011 edition, would continue. This will be the second bronze medal for the pairing, after their bronze in 2022.
In the quarterfinal, Satwik-Chirag beat Chia-Soh in two games with a scoreline of 21-12 and 21-19 in just 43 minutes. Satwik-Chirag’s performance ensured their place in the semifinals, making them the only Indian pair to reach this stage of the competition.
