East Bengal edges past spirited Sreebhumi FC to clinch Kanyasree Cup through tie-breaker

East Bengal women acquired the domestic double on Tuesday. After clinching the Indian Women’s League (IWL) this season, the red-and-gold women’s team won the IFA-organized state women’s football league, Kanyasree Cup edging past spirited Sreebhumi FC by 4-2 in the tie-breaker in the final at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Tuesday. After the barren first 45 minutes, East Bengal took the lead in the 49th minute via Sulanjana Raul’s strike. But Rimpa Halder gave the equalizer within two minutes. Sreebhumi FC had an inspiring show in the second half as they were able to penetrate the opposition defense on quite a few occasions. But missing opportunities turned out to be the key obstruction to their last laugh.
Sreebhumi FC wants to repeat the result; Sujata says nothing is impossible

Sreebhumi FC wants to repeat the result of last season’s state women’s football league, Kanyasree Cup, defeating East Bengal in the final. Sreebhumi FC edged past New Alipore Suruchi Sangha 2-1 in the semifinal at the East Bengal ground on Saturday. Moushumi Murmu and Rimpa Halder who was especially unplayable to opposition defenders struck the winners while Roshni Baskey reduced the margin for Suruchi Sangha. Sreebhumi FC clinched Kanyasree Cup last year defeating East Bengal. Sujata Kar, Sreebhumi FC coach when asked whether it would be possible for them to repeat the result, said, “Nothing is impossible if you can exert your best. East Bengal have more experienced footballers. They have more players who represent the country. Still, I will say my footballers that nothing is impossible.” Rimpa Halder also agreed to her coach’s notion saying, “East Bengal might be stronger on paper. But we will not give up and if we can offers attacks to our opposition as we did in today’s match then we may have the last laugh.”
