Mohammedan Sporting not anxious about Fifa’s ‘Transfer-ban’: Wadoo promises to stand by the struggling club

Sudeep Pakrashi: Following complaints submitted to the Fifa by the team’s former coach Andrey Chernyshov, the world soccer’s ruling body has sent an e-mail to Mohammedan Sporting, warning the club to ban its roping in foreign footballers during the transfer-window for three consecutive periods. Chernyshov who left the Black-and-White brigade three months before the end of ISL last season lodged a complaint to the Fifa alleging against club administration for not clearing his dues. The club’s senior vice-president Qamaruddin, when asked about the issue, explained, “Chernyshov left the team three months before the end of his contract. Then how could he demand a full salary and additional money also? Importantly, it is not our responsibility to clear his contracted dues. The company which brought him and made a four-year contract with him should come forward and clear his financial demands.” Regarding Fifa’s transfer-window ban, the vice-president revealed, “Initially Fifa intimated to us about the ban for three transfer-windows. But after we explained to them about the situation it has reduced to two transfer-windows and if we can pay the penalty then the ban will be lifted.” However, Mohammedan Sporting started training for the CFL Premier Division on Wednesday and according to Qamaruddin, the club has built up two teams where 35 footballers out of 50 have been selected from the state. Mehrajuddin Wadoo is already contracted with the club for this season also. He is likely to join the training by next week and the club is simultaneously in search of his assistant for the CFL particularly. Mehrajuddin however is committed to standing by the struggling cub administration despite the fact that he has not received his salary since joining the team as a coach at the end of last season.

Ranjit Bajaj demands Kalyan Chaube’s resignation after India’s loss to Hong Kong

Ranjit Bajaj, owner of I-League club Delhi FC and also the owner of the country’s premier football school Minerva Academy has sought immediate resignation of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaube after India conceded a disappointing loss to Hong Kong in the Asian Cup qualifier on Tuesday. Bajaj, speaking to the Parallel Sports YouTube channel on Wednesday slammed the AIFF president for the senior national team’s disastrous show stating, “The AIFF president should be solely responsible for the senior national team’s consistent failure since Manolo Marquez took over charge of the national team in last July. Manolo is being criticized now. But despite being aware of his engagement with FC Goa why did the AIFF president appoint him as the coach of senior national team?” Bajaj, raising his voice for Indian coaches in the context, added, “Why Khalid Jamil, the country’s most successful Indian coach was not chosen as the senior national coach? There are a few more Indian coaches who could be selected as the national coach. Why is the AIFF president so unwilling to appoint Indian coaches? Unless Chaube resigns Indian football will not grow.” However, at the same time, Bajaj is seeking specific clarification about AIFF’s proper investment in the youth development program. “Where is the money AIFF has been gaining from the ISL being used? I want to know specifically how much investment is being made for a proper youth development program. Do we have a quality national under-14 team? Unless we are placed in the top four in the AFC under-14 we cannot qualify for the under-17 World Cup and all these disasters are due to one man, Kalyan Chaube,” claimed Ranjit Bajaj.

Sourav Ganguly criticizes BCCI selectors for excluding Shreyas Iyer from the series in England

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was not in favor of excluding Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming Test series against England. Shreyas has been enjoying a brilliant run of form in the past year and he emerged as the top-scorer for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shreyas was suggested as a top contender for the middle-order but he did not find a spot in the final squad. Ganguly believes that Shreyas should have been picked based on his current form and he is not “the player who got left out”. Meanwhile, teenage fast bowler Eddie Jack has been “invited to practice” with England’s senior team ahead of the first Test against India after producing impressive efforts for the Lions against India A in the two four-day games, according to a report. India begin their new World Test Championship cycle taking on England in a five-match series beginning with the first match at Headingley from 20th June. The 19-year-old Hampshire seamer caught the selectors’ attention by dismissing India batter KL Rahul, who had scored a century in the first innings, during their drawn second unofficial Test in Northampton.

Chile misses third consecutive FIFA World Cup, Sanchez rues ‘golden generation is buried!’

Chile will miss a third consecutive World Cup after losing 0-2 to Bolivia on Tuesday, remaining last in South America’s 10-team round-robin competition. Head coach Ricardo Gareca later said he was standing down after his team’s failure. Later, Uruguay beat Venezuela at home 2-0, with goals from Rodrigo Aguirre and Giorgian de Arrascaeta, and drew closer to one of the region’s six direct spots in the World Cup with 24 points after 16 matches. The visitors, with 18 points, are one ahead of Bolivia in the fight for seventh place that grants an intercontinental playoff berth. Uruguay is seven points above eighth-place Bolivia. Chile’s golden generation won two Copa America titles — in 2015 and ‘16 — but is out of contention for next year’s expanded 48-team tournament. “Sad, I am feeling bad. I never lived something like this. We have to ask people to forgive us,” veteran Chile striker Alexis Sanchez said. He continued, “We have to keep working. There is change already, the golden generation is buried, I am the only one left!” Bolivia scored first via Miguel Terceros in the fifth minute and added a second in the 90th with Enzo Monteiro at the 4,150-meter-high El Alto Stadium, outside La Paz. Gareca, the 67-year-old Argentinian coach who took Peru to the 2018 World Cup, told a post-game news conference he was leaving the team after a 17-match stretch that included four wins, four draws, and nine losses.
