Priyansh Arya Turns Heads as Ravichandran Ashwin Sees Him ‘A Step Ahead’ of Emerging IPL Stars

Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya is fast becoming one of the standout stories of IPL 2026, with his fearless strokeplay and consistency pushing him into elite young-company conversations. His explosive 37-ball 93 against Lucknow Super Giants last week wasn’t just another innings, it was a statement.

Arya, who had already impressed in his debut season, seems to have elevated his game further. With scores like 39 off 11, 57 off 20, and now 93 off 37 balls, he has shown that his success is no fleeting phase but a sustained rise. In five matches this season, he has piled up 211 runs at an average of 42.2, striking at a staggering rate of over 248.

His performances have caught the attention of senior pros, including Ravichandran Ashwin, who highlighted Arya’s ability to convert starts into match-defining knocks.

“Kisiko upar-neeche laane ka nahi hai, magar ye jo Priyansh Arya hai na… jitna Ayush Mhatre, jitna Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hain, usse bhi thora ek kadam mujhe lag raha hain agey hain. Compare nahi kar raha hu. Kyunki yeh bada run bana leta hain, inke paas range of shots zyada hain,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

While Ashwin was careful to avoid direct comparisons, his point was clear, Arya’s ability to go big and his wider shot range give him an edge in high-pressure situations.

The conversation inevitably brings in other young sensations like Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, both of whom have lit up the tournament in their own ways. Mhatre, representing Chennai Super Kings, had been their leading run-scorer with 201 runs in six innings before a hamstring injury ruled him out of the season. Sooryavanshi, meanwhile, continues to impress, accumulating 246 runs in six matches and maintaining his position among the top performers this year.

Yet, what separates Arya at this moment is not just impact, but repeatability. In a league where promise often flickers and fades, he is building a case for something more enduring.
